The Woman Behind The Magnetic Eyelashes Concept

The Woman Behind The

Magnetic Lash Concept

When Entrepreneur, Dr. Anika Goodwin Hilderbrand, noticed that there was a lack of safe and comfortable, easy to apply lashes in the beauty industry, she began brainstorming and created a solution: magnetic lashes. She was a hit on Season 12 of ABC’s TV Show ‘Shark Tank’, where entrepreneurs are able to pitch their ideas for investment opportunities. As a vision advocate and beauty enthusiast, she wanted to show people that there is never a need to sacrifice safety for the sake of beauty.

“As much as I love wearing lash extensions, I suck at putting them on correctly,” Goodwin Hilderbrand revealed during her Shark Tank presentation, “And worse, it bothers me that I’m using harmful chemicals near my eyes.”

Shark Tank immediately took interest and invested in her idea, convinced that the lashes were both reusable and easy to apply, taking away all the tedious trial and error out of the lash application process.

Dr. Anika Goodwin is a board-certified ophthalmologist with a specialisation in eyelid care and procedures. She is a renowned eye surgeon and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1997. She then went on to receive her PhD from Medical University in South Carolina in 2001.

The initial investment in her product idea was made by Kendra Scott, an entrepreneur with more than 2000 women working for her.

“I think you do have something different than what I’ve seen out there,” says Kendra Acott. “You have…your expertise and knowledge of being a doctor. I would feel much better buying [the product] knowing that an eye doctor is endorsing it and creating these products.”
